Autumnal Art

Date: 22nd Sep 2017 @ 4:06pm

Today, some of Lilac children spent the day with Mulberry class. We have produced two different pieces of artwork. One piece brightens up the outdoor area between our classrooms, and the other was inspired by Autumn's nature.

For our large and bright pieces, we mostly worked in pairs. We had to draw around some 2D shapes, with smaller ones inside the larger ones. Mrs Millar taught us about complementary colours, using an art colour wheel. Ask your children the three primary colours of art, the three secondary colours, and then which colours go together to create the complementary colours. We could then only use complementary colours to colour the shapes alternately one inside the other. Making sure that there was no white showing through from the paper, we coloured in using bright oil pastels.

Our second piece of art was based around Autumn. First we went into the woodland area of school, and collected objects that were on the ground and linked to nature such as fallen leaves, berries, twigs and feathers. Next, we left them to dry out a bit whilst we completed our other artwork. We then arranged our gathered items on to a piece of paper before placing them carefully on to sticky-backed plastic. Finally, we had to work gently with a partner to cover our natural picture with a second piece of plastic. We will need to decide how to display them when we return to school next week, and we may add a frame to some of them.

We hope you like our pictures, it has been a busy and productive day! Well done everyone.
