Magnificent Magnolia's Musicians!

Date: 19th Jun 2016 @ 2:52pm

In Magnolia class this term, we have been investigating the different instruments on our percussion trolley. We have instruments made from metal, wood and some from plastic, and we have discovered that they can be played in many different ways. Some make sounds when we shake them, others we hit or tap, and some we scrape.  We have also learnt about how we can change the dynamics of our music by using some Italian words and symbols. Ask your child if they can remember what forte or piano mean - we have even mentioned them in class discussions about the volume of our voices as we work!

During our open morning last week, we developed our composing as we created graphic scores. A graphic score uses a picture or symbol to show when we need to play a certain instrument, and in our groups we created weather graphic scores. We had a choice of instruments to investigate, and choose which would represent the different weathers the best. After that, we had to arrange the pictures into an order we wanted to perform our music in. We worked really well in our small groups, and created some imaginative scores. You can see us having fun as we learn in our pictures and videos below.   We even let John Bishop have a turn at playing some of the instruments, but we weren't quick enough with a camera to catch him playing the finger cymbals!
