Raising Aspirations Assembly 13

We were extremely fortunate to welcome Lizzie Gilbert to our thirteenth Raising Aspirations assembly last week. Lizzie shared her experience working as a Pharmacology Analysis Manager for a large pharmaceutical company. We learnt her job is to investigate and analyse and assess how new medicines can be used safely in the future.

While Pharmacologists seek to understand how chemical substances interact with the body. Lizzie  works as part of a research team that is responsible for screening compounds, developing drugs and undertaking controlled experiments and clinical trials. Their aim is to gain a better understanding of diseases, develop new drugs to treat them and promote the safe use of existing drugs.

Specifically Lizzie’s role includes:

 •analysing and interpreting data from clinical trials

•making recommendations based on findings from research and experiments

•studying relevant literature

•writing reports and papers and presenting her findings to others

•collaborating with and sharing expertise and research findings with associated staff

 

Qualifications required: You need strong literacy and numeracy skills to become a pharmacologist and A levels and a degree in Science. A postgraduate research degree or PhD can be beneficial.
