Solar Eclipse

On Friday 20th March from about 8.25am we will be able to witness the start of the total eclipse of the sun. This is only visible to us every 18 years or so. It is well worth taking a few minutes to watch this amazing phenomina.

IMPORTANT: do not look directly at the sun - it can damage your eyes. Even using the special glasses, you should limit the time you look at the eclipse to a few minutes.

What is a total eclipse?

How can I watch it?

You should not look at the sun directly, it will damage your eyes. Special eclipse glasses can be used to look at the eclipse for short period of times or you can also make a pin hole camera which projects the image onto a piece of paper. This is the safest option, but needs a little work!

What can I expect to see?

From Cheshire, we can expect to see 89% of the total eclipse of the sun (you have to go to the north of Scotland to see 95% or more).
