Tattenhall Day 1

Date: 24th Oct 2017 @ 8:46pm

Day 1 at Tattenhall has been very busy and fantastic, and the weather didn't conspire against us! Photos will follow, but all of the children are happy, safe and enjoying themselves (and so are the staff!).

After arriving safely and a quick tour and introduction to the centre, the children played outside in the spacious grounds for a while before lunch. Then, they had an orienteering challenge in teams to bring back the different numbers and letters from the checkpoints. Following lunch, three staff from Tattenhall prepared us all for our afternoon activities. We did tree-climbing, a zip-wire and the low ropes course, rotating in three different groups.

The tree climbing meant that we had to be brave, as some of us (including staff) are not too keen on heights. However, we worked well to encourage each other, and we had to help our friends by feeding the rope if we were based on the ground. Some of us managed to get really high up the tree, and those of us who were more nervous did one step extra than we all thought we could which was a massive achievement.

The zip-wire was probably the favourite activity for most of us. We had to climb a ladder up the tree, connect ourselves to a rope (with Stella's help), and then we went flying through the air. It's a shame that there wasn't enough time to have a second go as we had such fun!

The third activity was the low ropes course. Our first challenge was to swing across two high boxes as the floor was 'lava'. We had to work well as a team to clear space for each other and pass the rope carefully from one side to the other. Then, we had to move around the low ropes activity course as carefully as we could without falling off, and try a different route each time. One group even managed the final challenging task of the beam, where we had to support each other to get over the high pieces of wood.

After all of that effort, we were definitely ready for our tea. We have had sausage and mash or lasagne followed by apple crumble and custard. After some time to let our tea settle, we have begun our disco.

With such a busy day, we shouldn't have too much trouble sleeping tonight! Fingers crossed...
