Willow's Blog - Week 1, Autumn Term 2

Date: 17th Nov 2015 @ 10:10pm

Week 1 - Autumn Term 2 - A WILLOW WOOD CRIME SCENE!!!

We have all enjoyed our half term break. This half term our role play area has been turned into a toy museum! On our first day back we explored our toy museum and had a chat about what a museum was! We learned that a museum is somewhere that you can go to look at items from the past and learn about them! We found out that our topic for this half term was going to be toys and thought about what we would like to learn. We decided that we want to know:

- How toys are made.

- Where toys are made.

- What kind of toys our grandparents might have played with.

- How toys move and work.

On our second day back however, DISASTER STRUCK! We came in to crime scene tape surrounding our new toy museum...and some of our toys had disappeared! We had an email from the Cheshire Constabulary asking us to investigate on their behalf. We made detective badges so that we could go behind the tape and as part of our learning in English filled out an incident form. We found some track marks from the toys and a note saying 'Find Us', we logged this as evidence. We talked together and decided to put up some missing posters around the school so we made these and had to learn how to describe objects.

In our maths learning this week we have started to look at subtraction. We learnt that other names for subtraction are taking away, or minus. We always practise counting backwards to help us with this. We used number lines and objects to help us find the answer to simple subtraction questions.

Our Star of the Week this week was Macauley. He impressed Miss Hughes and Mrs Draper with the way that he always sounds out the things that he is trying to write. We also chose Freya because she works so hard at every lesson and always follows our class rules.

I went home with Freya this weekend and had a lovely time!

To help us carry on our learning at home this week you could:

  • Practise counting backwards from 20 and asking us to quickly tell you one less.
  • Use objects from around the house and ask us to take some away, and count them again.
  • Ask us to write about our favourite toys. Can we sound out the words we are trying to write and get the correct sounds?
  • As always, read with us at home!

Phew! What a busy first week back! I can't wait to see what next week brings.

Love and Miaows
