YR 4 HAZEL 2016 - 2017 2017 - 2018

Miss Reynolds

Our team in Hazel class:

Miss Reynolds - Class Teacher

Mrs Matthews - Teaching Assistant

Miss Philips - Teaching Assistant

The children - who make Hazel class the wonderful place it is.

We are going to have a very busy and exciting year with lots of new learning opportunities, both inside and outside the classroom.

In literacy we will be focusing on story writing, describing the characters and the setting and also writing some of our own stories. The children will experience a variety of books written by many different authors such as Roald Dahl.

Every week, we will be having a spelling test so make sure you are learning them at home, spellings can be found on the tabs at the top of the page, your child will know which colour group they are in.

We will be using and working on many different mathematical skills during the year as we become magnificent mathematicians.  Our times tables knowledge is really important as we use it in lots of different ways, so please make sure you are practising each day (get your child to sing the times tables they are learning, there are great times table songs on youtube as shown on our maths page). Also, look out for maths being used in every day life: how long is a TV programme? How much do packets of food weigh? Can you find the difference in capacities of liquids? Can you total up your shopping or find change?

As you know, on a Monday we also have a times table test. Together we can beat your score! If you need any help, click the tab 'Times table help' at the top of the page.

We will be investigatinglots of different topics such as, electricity, sound, the digestive system and many more. Each half term a blog will explain the work the children have completed in their science lessons so remember to keep an eye out for those.

Topic -

This term, we are going to find out all about our Global Goals. We have been looking at Life Under Water and what impacts these animals. Ask your child about what we have been looking at.

We will be doing indoor PE on Monday and Wednesday afternoons, so make sure you have your full PE kit, including trainers and a jumper. We do expect each child to have a white PE top, black shorts or leggins, suitable footwear and if girls wear tights, they will need to bring spare socks.

This year you will be given one piece of homework a week, this will be either a maths or literacy activity or a home learning challenge. Homework is due in every Wednesday, if you do not understand you homework, please let me know before Wednesday and we can go through it together. As mentioned above, you will also have a times table test and a spelling test every week therefore the more practise you do, the better your score will be.

This year our focus is on reading and our comprehension skills. Please remember to read every night and get your reading diary signed. This term our author is Anthony Brown. What can you find out about him?

Some of my favourite quotes from Roald Dahl -

"If my books can help children become readers then I feel I have accomplished something impressive."

"Books shouldn't be daunting, they should be funny, exciting and wonderful."

"Books transported her into new worlds and introduced her to amazing people who had exciting lives"

What is your favourite quote?
