YR 5 MULBERRY 2016 - 2017 2017 - 2018

Mrs Millar

Welcome to Mulberry's class page!

We are made up of 26 fantastic year 5 children, our class teacher is Mrs Millar and Mrs Mackay is our teaching assistant.  Mr Shone is the other year 5 class teacher.

We will be building on prior learning as we go through the year, with many exciting, inspiring and challenging activities and events planned. For the Summer Term, alongside the whole-school topic of 'Willow Wood Works', we will be studying the Vikings, and making comparisons between the occupations then and now. In addition, we will be thinking about different skills required for various jobs, and even building skills for jobs that have not yet even been invented!

Our PE days for the Summer Term are Monday and Tuesday afternoons initially, taking place outdoors as often as possible, so please make sure your child will be warm enough, and trainers rather than pumps are recommended. Later in the term, the Tuesday will switch to Wednesday, but we will let you know when

On Thursday afternoons, the children will continue having their music lessons as they learn to play an instrument, so please make sure instruments are in school.

Children will be set homework regularly on a Friday, to be returned by the next Wednesday. There will be a times table challenge every week, and spelling lists will also be given out to be learnt for a test the next week.Children are also expected to read a minimum of 4 times during the week, with their reading diaries signed to show this is happening.

Please make sure you are reading often with your child as it underpins so much of our learning and development elsewhere. We need to be able to understand maths problems and any research that we do, and we will also subconsciously become better at spelling and writing independently as we borrow ideas!

Below is a list of the spellings for Year 5 and 6 which don't fit any particular rules and just need to be memorised. They will revisit these in Year 6, but we need to make a confident start now!
