A year 5/6 mixed football team represented Willow Wood in the Winsford Primary school championships. Held at Winsford Academy, the first part of the tournament saw Willow Wood play 4 matches. Despite the majority of possession, we drew our opening game against  St Chads 0-0. Playing some excellent football, we were unlucky not to break the deadlock firstly through captain Jamie Felton, who hit the post and secondly through Cameron Huckin who rattled the crossbar. Alex Stanton played well out wide, Thomas Parr defended expertly and Daniel Hanson (Goalkeeper) made some important saves.

The second game saw Willow Wood up against High street . After conceding the first goal, Willow Wood showed great persistence and endeavour to equalise through a fantastic goal from Alex Lloyd- making it all square at half time. The second half started with an unbelievable and unstoppable goal from High street  and despite creating some chances Willow Wood could not get that all important goal. The gung-ho mentality left us short in defence and High street caught us on the counter attack scoring twice more.

The third game against Wharton saw us dominate possession - Dan Kambatuku was immense. Camped in their half of the pitch we bombarded their goalkeeper, who made save after save. With minutes left, we were growing frustrated that we were looking at another 0-0 draw when the unbelievable happened;Wharton ventured into our half of the pitch and had their only shot on our goal and scored!

We managed to put the previous demoralising results behind us and once again dominated possession in our final game of the evening. Once again our opponents goalkeeper was having a blinder and the score at half time was  0-0.  The second half was a more even affair. We didn't want to concede another late goal and Jamie Felton, Dan Kambutuku and Thomas Parr defended like lions. Then it happened. Ella Bishop won possession in her own half and with a perfectly weighted pass found Kian Newman who confidently slotted the ball home. Beating Over St John's 1-0 not only allowed us to celebrate but also gives us a chance of making the play offs when we play our remaining 3 matches on Thursday evening.
