Phonics

Phonics is the way in which children are taught to read. By learning to recognise the different sounds that letters make both individually and together, they are able to learn to blend these sounds together to make a word.

At the end of Year One all children have to undertake a phonics screening check, to make sure that they are applying the skills that they have learnt so far. Our children continue to have daily phonics sessions which really help them with both their reading and writing.

You can support your child at home by continuing to read with them at home on a regular basis. In school we also use a fantastic website called phonics play, this has some great games on it which help to enhance the children's learning. We have attached the link on the picture below. We are also hoping to put on some phonics workshops to show you more of the type of phonics learning we do in school.
