Willow's Blog - Week 2 - Spring 2

Welcome back to Willow's blog!
This half term we have been learning all about space. It has been our favourite topic so far this year, we are really enjoying finding out lots of new information. We started off our topic with an 'astronaut training day'. We learnt all about the British astronaut Tim Peake who is currently on a 6 month mission on the International Space Station. We watched the video of his launch into space and watched the video where he is doing a Q&A with some children on Earth. We loved seeing him floating around. The next part of our astronaut training was working on our fitness. We found out that astronauts have to have very strong muscles and bones because of the different gravity in space, and we learnt that they do lots of exercises to help them such as funny crawling, skipping, running in and out of cones and one where you have to very quickly catch a dropping ruler to practise moving your hands quickly. We got to grips with using timers to measure how many seconds or minutes we took doing our challenges and recorded them on our score sheets as we went. The last part of our astronaut training was food sampling. Miss Hughes had been on the internet and bought us some real astronaut food which is all dried up so that it lasts in space. We tried things like astronaut ice cream, astronaut strawberries and bananas and astronaut cookies. We loved the astronaut ice cream but thought it was very strange!
Take a look at our pictures to see us really enjoying our astronaut training day! We all passed our training and are ready for our first mission into space .
