Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND)

All Cheshire West and Chester Local Authority (LA) maintained schools have a similar approach to meeting the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and are supported by the LA to ensure that all pupils, regardless of their individual needs, make the best possible progress in school.

All schools are supported to be as inclusive as possible, with the needs of pupils with SEND being met in a mainstream setting wherever possible.

What is the Local Offer?

From 2014 LAs and schools are required to publish and update information about services they expect to be available for the children and young people with SEND aged 0-25. Therefore the intention of the Local Offer is to improve choice and transparency for families. It will also be an important resource for parents in understanding the range of services and provision in the area.

At Willow Wood Community Primary School we are committed to ensuring equality of education and opportunity for disabled pupils, staff, and all those receiving services from the school regardless of gender, race and disability.

The School SEN Information Report

This document acknowledges the Local Offer and tells parents how we at Willow Wood Community Nursery and Primary School meet the needs of our pupils with SEND, as set out in our school policy.

We pride ourselves on being an inclusive school who supports children with a range of needs from Nursery to Year 6 to access a broad and balanced curriculum. We also have a Resource Provision for pupils in KS1 and KS2 with Complex, Moderate Learning Needs. Admissions for our RP is through the Local Authority

'Pupils with SEND and those in the specially resourced provision are very well supported by staff. This is because no time is wasted in quickly and accurately identifying their needs. For the most part, pupils with SEND, including those in the specially resourced provision, enjoy learning the same content alongside their friends. They also play an active role in all aspects of school life.' OFSTED 2023
