Fairtrade Fortnight
Date: 2nd Mar 2017 @ 4:01pm
Here at Willow Wood we are celebrating Fairtrade Fortnight. This means that we are thinking about the foods that we eat and where they come from. We did a little role play drama where we pretended to be farmers, supermarkets and shoppers. When the fruit the shoppers were buying didn't have the Fairtrade sticker on it, the farmers didn't get much of the money the shopper gave to the supermarket and they were tired from working such long days with no break. When the shoppers bought fruit and vegetables with the Fairtrade sticker on it, the supermarkets had to give more money to the farmers and they were happy. This made us think about making sure things are fair for everyone.
After that, we went into the hall to have a Fairtrade Feast where we ate pancakes with Fairtrade chocolate and Fairtrade bananas and other yummy foods that our teachers had made with Fairtrade ingredients. We had a fantastic afternoon together.
We decided we were going to be careful next time we are buying bananas and other fruit and try to make sure it has the Fairtrade logo on it first.
