Guest Speaker
Date: 7th Feb 2018 @ 2:34pm
Last Friday, Year 6 welcomed another guest speaker into our classroom. We were incredibly fortunate that Carlton Evans was able to take time out of his busy schedule to share his experiences of working as a civil servant for The Department for International Development (DFID).
DFID leads the UK’s work to end extreme poverty, deliver the global goals and tackle global challenges. Carlton explained how their ultimate goal is to end extreme poverty and that history shows that one of the most effective ways of doing this is through creating jobs. DFID also focus on working to empower girls and women to determine their own futures; generating jobs and economic opportunities; and addressing defining global challenges such as mass, unmanaged migration and climate change.
Year 6 really enjoyed the presentation and gained a valuable insight into poverty, equality and the importance of education.
