Railway Children Charity
Date: 7th Feb 2018 @ 4:41pm
Year 6 welcomed another guest speaker to Willow Wood on Wednesday 7th February. David Maidment, who works for the Railway Children charity, shared his experiences of helping to change the lives of homeless children in India, East Africa (Kenya) and the UK. David, who has also worked with Amnesty international, showed us a range of photographs he had taken while working in Mumbai, explaining the desperate situation children find themselves and the methods used to support them (providing accomodation/education/food/jobs).
After learning about Babli a homeless, seven-year-old girl, who spent 2 years of her life collecting water for 8 hours a day in return for just 1 rupee a day (enough for one meal of rice), our children attempted to carry a heavy bucket of water and tried sleeping in a cardboard box.
We learnt about the fantastic support that the Railway Children charity provide. If you want to learn more visit their website: www.railwaychildren.org.uk/what-we-do/
