The Thinking Leader

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader”.
John Quincy Adams
In our school we encourage all members of our school community to view themselves as leaders. All pupils and staff members step up to the mark and lead on a whole range of areas such as, library, first aid, sex education, sport and PE and learning to name but a few.
Every February Headteachers have the opportunity to learn together in the beautiful setting of the Lake District for a few days. This year the conference theme was, ‘The Thinking Leader’. It is a real privilege to get away from the ‘tyranny of the immediate’ and have time to think about your school alongside Headteacher colleagues from across Cheshire West and Chester.
As well as networking with Headteacher colleagues I appreciate the time to talk to members of Cheshire West and Chester, such a Gerald Meehan, Strategic Director for Children and Families, Mark Parkinson, Director of Education and Councillor Nicole Meardon, whom I will invite to school. I always tell them about the great work going on at Willow Wood Community Primary School!
I will always remember the closing talk by John Williams, ‘My Son’s not Rainman’. He talked to us with humour and passion about his journey, as a single Dad, bringing up his son who has autism. He made us laugh and cry and think deeply about the role of a school in supporting children with additional needs and their families.
