Train Like an Astronaut!
Date: 7th Feb 2017 @ 2:48pm
Last week in Oak we had an awesome astronaut training day. We followed the Nasa - Train Like an Astronaut programme in P.E to get our bodies ready to go into space. We used stopwatches to time each other doing the training activities like 'Jump for the Moon' which involved skipping, 'Astro Agility' where we had to practise running between cones and 'Speed of Light' where we had to test our reflexes and catch a falling ruler between our fingers. We then came back to our classroom and tried some real Astronaut Food sachets that are taken into Space. We loved the Astronaut Ice Cream but thought the Astronaut Strawberries were a little too sour! After that, we were so lucky to have been able to have borrowed REAL samples of Moon rock from the Science and Technologies Council. The samples were so special and rare that they arrived in a huge briefcase with padlocks on it. We got to use microscopes to look at pieces of real Moon collected by astronauts and we also handled meteorites that were over 4.5 billion years old.
We had an absolutely amazing afternoon completing our astronaut training and have loved learning about Space this half term.
