Willow's Blog - Summer Term
Date: 22nd Apr 2016 @ 1:25pm
Welcome back to our class blog - and what a fantastic first week back it has been! We have been so busy this week with lots of new learning, we have really impressed Miss Hughes with how grown up and excited to learn we have been.
Our new Science topic this term is plants. We are going to be doing some growing experiments but first we thought about the different parts of the plant. We had so much fun doing this as a tasting session - we learnt that you can eat the roots of a plant (carrots), the stem (celery), the leaf (spinach), the flower (strawberry) and even the seeds (sunflower seeds)! This really helped us to remember the different parts of a plant. We linked this to our English objective this week, which was adjectives and thought of lots of different adjectives for all the food that we tried. We came up with some fantastic describing words together and then wrote descriptions of them on our own using all five senses.
Our Woodlands time this week was spent looking at deciduous and evergreen trees! We learnt that deciduous trees have leaves that fall off in the winter and evergreens have leaves that stay on all year round. We looked all around our school to see what kind of evergreen trees we could spot by looking at their different leaves.
In Maths we have been learning to add ten or multiples of ten to any given number. We have been counting in tens to help us warm up our brains and are so good at it now - ask us to show you at home!
Finally, to finish off our super busy week, we celebrated the Queen's 90th birthday. We learnt all about her and her family and then we decorated cakes which we enjoyed with a cup of tea with the rest of our Key Stage 1 friends.
We have had such an amazing first week back. Everyone has worked so hard, lets keep it up for the rest of term!
