Willow's Blog - Week 3, Autumn Term 2

Date: 23rd Nov 2015 @ 9:49pm

What an ODD week it has been in Oak class...or should we say, odd and even! This week our maths focus has been starting to learn which numbers are odd and even. We have had so much fun doing this. We met the character Odd Todd who lives on Odd Street and sings "1,3,5,7,9 these are odd all the time." and his friend Even Steven who lives on Even Street and sings "0,2,4,6,8 even numbers are really great." We split ourselves into two teams, an odd team and an even team. Miss Hughes had hidden numbers all over the playground. The odd team had to find all the odd numbers and the even team had to find the even numbers. We really enjoyed this. We played a little game where we had to count the letters in our name and decide if we were an Odd Todd or an Even Steven...Mrs Draper was an Odd Todd wink hehe. At the end of the week Even Steven set us a sweetie sharing challenge. He had a big bag of skittles and wanted to half them evenly between him and his pal Odd Todd. He just wasn't sure which amount of numbers could be split equally and fairly. We did a little experiment sharing different numbers between two, or halving. We found that even numbers can split fairly between two, but with odd numbers there is always one left over. Even Steven was kind enough to give us a skittle or two each at the end to eat.

In English, we have been learning how to do news reports and tell a recount of something that has happened. We loved using the word 'chronological' to describe things happening in order. We made our own news reports to talk about what happened in our Toy Museum. We had to split into partners and pretend to be real news reporters who sat at a desk! Have a look at our videos to see how we got on. We found being filmed a bit scary at first, but as usual we all had a go at trying something new and made Miss Hughes really proud.

We have been thinking about Anti Bullying Week this week as part of our SEAL lessons. Have a look on the tab at the top of our class page to find out what we have been doing. Linked to this, we gave the star of the week award to Niamh who is always such a kind friend to the other children. I went home for a weekend with Shelisa. I had such a lovely time. Shelisa always listens to other people, does the right thing and has lovely manners.

See you next week for more fab learning!
