Willow's Blog - Week 4/5, Autumn Term 2
Date: 9th Dec 2015 @ 6:27pm
We have been so busy in Oak class these past few weeks. We have been trying to cram in our rehearsals for our amazing Christmas play whilst keeping up with all our learning. Over the past two weeks we have looked at instruction writing for our English lessons. We learnt all about where we might find instructions, what they are used for and the different features of instructions. We looked at a particular type of instructions called recipes. For maths we have been practising finding halves and quarters of shapes and quantities. We had a little brainwave when we realised we were doing instructions and fractions in the same week - we turned our classroom into a pizzeria!!! We worked in our table groups to read the recipe instructions for decorating pizza's - covering 1 whole pizza with cheese, 1/2 with pineapple and 1/4 with ham etc. This helped us to reinforce our learning about instructions as well as practically experiment with halving and quartering. We were so excited when we got to cook and eat the pizzas at the end. At the end of the week we thought about the instructions we had followed when we made our pizza and wrote our own recipes, remembering all the features of instructions such as a title, ingredients and a method.
Take a look at the pictures of us enjoying our pizza fractions here!
