Poppy Day and Pudsey!

Date: 15th Nov 2014 @ 12:53pm

Our week in school together started with a Remembrance Day assembly. The atmosphere was poignant as we listen to one of our Governors, Robin Barfield, playing the Last Post on the bugle. Children, staff and Governors remembered all those men and women who have given their lives so that we may live our lives in peace. We also had a report from Megan, Junior Mayor, who laid a wreath at the Cenotaph with such dignity and Naomi who walked in the Remembrance Day parade, representing the guides.

We also waved of our Year 5 Team for their three-day residential at Tattenhall Outdoor Education Centre. I joined them for tea and an evening of fun and games! It was a delight to spend time with them all. Please look at the Year 5 blog for more details and pictures.

During our staff meeting on Tuesday staff looked at learning resources for teaching the new computing curriculum and our ICT Leaders reported to the Teaching and Learning Committee on future palns for development in this area of the curriculum. We were delighted to present each Year 6 pupil with their own iPad to use to support their learning in school. Thanks to the FOWWS for contributing towards this project.

I enjoyed spending time observing teaching and learning in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 and also a morning teaching the reception children while the EYFS Teachers were attending a, ‘Getting ready for Ofsted’ course.

On Thursday two of our Governors spent the day in school carrying out a learning walk and talking to pupils about what they have enjoyed learning in English so far this term. The were charmed by our children and received lots of encouraging comments from them about how much they enjoy learning at Willow Wood and some next steps – for example some pupils wanted more homework challenges! I look forward to receiving their report, which I can share with colleagues.

Friday was our exciting Pudsey Bear Fun Day and it was great to see all the children joining in with such enthusiasm. Each class organized their own activities to raise funds for Children in Need. Thanks to Laurie in Year 5 who made a beautiful Pudsey Bear cake for me – I was happy to make a donation in return.
