What a Spring First Half-Term!

Date: 12th Feb 2018 @ 1:52pm

Looking back on the events of this half-term, makes us realise what a fantastic time that we have had. It is hard to believe that we have packed so much in!

The New Year brought our time to visit the Lifestyle Centre every week, in order to help us improve our swimming skills. We were assessed, grouped and after that, in the weeks that followed we have been spending time becoming more comfortable in the water. Swimming is a skill that is as important as Maths and English, or anything else; pupils are making lots of progress, so why not visit the Lifestyle Centre during half-term and build up confidence in your own time?

On January the 18th, we were joined by all manner of creatures and creepy-crawlies, which can be viewed on a previous blog. The experience really helped us to understand more about how the warmth of the rainforest can help creatures grow larger and more diverse than they can in breezy Britain!

The latter part of the half-term was particularly busy. First came Internet Safety day when pupils were taught all about their digital footprint, and how to stay safe on-line. During the celebration assembly on the following Friday, Year 5 performed the following rap:

You’ll be safe on the Internet!

Be careful what you might get!

Pop-ups for grown-ups

Don’t get shown up!

Be safe on the Internet!

Selfies of my Besties…

Pictures of their families…

It’s there forever!

Let’s be clever…

Uniform, addresses, contact details

Don’t show any of them in your emails!!!

Because they are your personal details!

Next, last week was Children’s Mental Health Week so we celebrated the importance of difference and uniqueness during PSHCE and class assembly time. Most of us can recognise why we are different and special but we need to work on this a little more as we all need to understand completely how special we are! During this week, we were also introduced to Yoga. After a shaky start, all members of Year 5 were slowly pulled into the mental and physical aspects of Yoga and by the end of the session; all pupils really understood that Yoga is NOT a gentle exercise!

Last, but not anywhere-near least, comes Forest Schools, which Year 5 pupils will take part in on Friday afternoons up until Easter (taught by Mr. Thorpe from St. Josephs, Winsford.) Last Friday, 9th of February, was our first outdoor session and we had a fantastic time. We worked in pairs to find any possible hazards and we logged them. Then we learned all about the importance of staying out of the fire-circle, before we built animal houses out of natural resources and the ‘right’ amount of string… We finished off by toasting marshmallows! What an afternoon!
