Musical Mayhem!

Well, what a busy couple of weeks we have had with some musical experiences!

On Tuesday 21st March, Year 2 and Year 5 had Tim from 'Rhythmicity' in school to do a drumming workshop. Year 2 experienced African Drumming in the morning, and Year 5 had some Samba Drumming in the afternoon. Year 2 tried three different types of instrument, and even made up tunes using what they had for breakfast! In Year 5, each of the four instrument types had an important job, and we found some of the samba rhythms tricky to play. We needed a lot of concentration!  We made a lot of noise and learnt how to work well in a group. It is important to listen to each other so we can keep time, and we make sure the overall sound is great.

On Wednesday 22nd March, the whole school took part in the international 'Singup' celebration event. See the other gallery page for our whole-school choir singing the song 'Let Love Shine Through'.

Finally, for the recent musical exploits, the rest of the school welcomed Brian Costello (otherwise known as the 'Sambabambaman') into school on Tuesday 28th March. He provided us with a workshop called 'Bash your Trash', and we made a lot of noise with different objects, many of which were recycled things you would find around the house. Most of the year groups had a session with him, where we played different samba rhythms, and had to shout the word 'Mambo' on a special signal. At times we were even parading around the hall. The day culminated in a whole-school assembly where the Year 6 children performed what they had been learning to the rest of the school. Brian even made all the teachers join in with the instruments! They pretended they were embarrassed, but deep down we think they really enjoyed it - some were even caught dancing to the music! There were definitely a lot of happy faces around school following our music sessions, it really is good for us.
